Meet Barbara Johnson

Bee Who you are and Bee kind

Barbara Johnson has been a potter for over 30 years.

She chooses clay because of the endless formations and incredible intensifying colours that can be created through the many combinations of glazes and firings. She works with three different clays; earthenware, and two high fire porcelains.

Within the past three years she has expanded to mosaics using many of her handmade pieces as well as stained glass.

She takes much of her inspiration from nature and has incorporated the use of leaves from her garden, including grape, fig, passion vine, lotus, ivy, etc.

She is not a production potter, each piece of pottery is individually created, one-of-a-kind and never exactly duplicated. Her husband sometimes refers to her artwork as dysfunctional, but she likes to believe each piece is useful in its own way. All of the glazes she uses are food safe and are durable enough to be used inside or out as mini ponds with water or simply for display.

She presents her work a few times a year at local art shows. Throughout the years her pottery has been reviewed and received numerous awards at juried shows and exhibits.

There are many different tastes for art and so Barbara tries and creates a little something for everyone, with each passing year providing new and different perspectives.

Barbara gets great pleasure when someone is attracted to her work, whether they purchase it or not isn’t important just knowing it is appreciated is enough.

Some of Barbara’s work can also be viewed in our gallery, although for a more complete picture of her work, please visit her Facebook page and her website:
