PASS – Plant A Seed Saturday: Broad Beans aka Fava Beans

If you have not already done so, please make your way over to our facebook page and join us.

This month we are asking you to plant a broad bean aka fava bean (or any bean for that matter). Broad beans stop nutrients leaching through otherwise fallow soil. They are ready in May-June. More interestingly,

1) Broad Bean Flowers have the most beautiful, delicate perfume
2) The bees absolutely love their flowers
3) Bean and pod can be eaten if picked at about 7cm,
4) Delicious in salads
5) Broad beans are an excellent vegetable source of protein and fibre.
6) Broad beans are also rich in both folate and B vitamins for nerve and blood cell development, cognitive function and energy.
7) Can be planted anywhere in the world….

Again, we are counting on you – big or small – to help out.

For container gardening, place 3 beans per 6-8 inch pot.

Please invite everyone on your friends’ list to partake in this event and lets spread the seeds around the world.
